“Powder and capsules have the same benefits. Powder is cheaper, capsules are more convenient. Whichever you choose, start with half the recommended amount to let your body get used to it.”

How Forest compares
All of our super foods are whole foods with as little processing as possible. Whilst other brands add fillers, alcohol and water to boost their margins, we sell the mushroom just like nature intended.

“Typical” describes common practice in the category, not any one brand.
The whole mushroom
Lion's Mane contains over 280 compounds. Most Lion's Mane supplements are made by extracting a handful of them with alcohol, water or both. We take a different approach.
An extract
An extract pulls out certain compounds using alcohol, water or both, and discards the rest. It's cheaper to make, and the mushroom ends up as a liquid or a concentrate.
Forest's whole mushroom
We freeze-dry the entire Australian-grown Lion's Mane mushroom, fruiting body and mycelium, and simply take the water out. Every bottle holds the equivalent of 600g of fresh Lion's Mane.

Grown in Australia under strict quality standards, in controlled conditions with clean air and water.

Snap-frozen to -65°C, a gentle process without high heat. Some studies have found freeze-drying preserves up to 97% of fresh nutrients.

We manufacture every bottle ourselves: the freeze-dried whole mushroom is ground and encapsulated in-house, with no fillers or additives.
Proof you can check
Mushrooms absorb whatever is in their environment. That's why we grow ours in Australia and send batches to independent labs.
Independent Certificate of Analysis, batch 24186262, reported January 2026
100% Australian-grown, freeze-dried Lion's Mane mushroom, fruiting body and mycelium. Unlike extracts, nothing has been isolated or removed.
Contains trace amounts of organic brown rice from the natural growing medium used to cultivate the mycelium. This cannot be completely separated during harvest.
What we leave out
The honest answer
An extract is cheaper to make. Here's what the difference buys you.
A typical extract
Cheaper per jar
A handful of compounds pulled out with alcohol, water or both. The rest of the mushroom is thrown away.
Any Forest Lion's Mane
$1.47–$2.97 a day
The whole Australian-grown mushroom, freeze-dried, with the lab reports published.
The real comparison is what's in the jar.
Lion's Mane is about 90% water, so it takes 10kg of fresh mushroom to make 1kg dried. Every capsule bottle holds the equivalent of 600g of fresh Lion's Mane. We don't believe the cheapest supplement is the best value. We believe the least processed one is.

Ange the nutritionist answers your questions
Four things separate a whole-food Lion's Mane from the rest. Use them to compare any brand, not just ours.
The buying guide
An extract isolates one or two compounds and suspends them in water or alcohol. That's how a solid mushroom becomes a liquid. It's cheap to produce, but it leaves most of the mushroom behind. A whole food keeps everything the mushroom naturally contains.
Mushrooms are super absorbent. They take up whatever is in the air and water around them, including heavy metals. That's why we won't sell imported mushrooms when Australian grown is readily available, and why our heavy-metal report is published above.
Every drying method loses something. Freeze-drying takes the mushroom to -65°C so quickly it's "snap" dried, while many imported mushrooms are spray-dried instead. It's the expensive way, and we think it's worth it.
Our Whole Mushroom Capsules and Powder include both the mycelium and the fruiting body. If you prefer fruiting body only, choose the Yarra Valley Fruiting Body Powder or Capsules.
Your questions
Both have the same efficacy. Powder is cheaper and easy to add to smoothies, water, milk or food. Capsules cost a little more but are the most convenient way to take it every day.
One flat teaspoon (2g) a day, mixed into water, milk or another liquid. You can also brew it into tea or use it in cooking. For the capsules, it's 4 capsules a day. Whichever you choose, start with half the recommended amount to let your body get used to it.
We recommend taking it after your first meal, in the morning.
Everybody has different experiences. For some people it's within an hour, for others it can take weeks or months. That's why every order comes with our Lifetime Return Guarantee.
Lion's Mane is not recommended for people on blood-thinning medication, because it can have a similar blood-thinning effect. If you're unsure, check with your healthcare professional first.
We use a method developed by mycologist Paul Stamets, growing it on Australian-grown organic brown rice. The mushroom consumes the rice as its food, so by harvest what's left is the mycelium and fruiting body, plus trace amounts of the rice.
It's ground coffee: 90% Australian single-origin arabica and 10% freeze-dried Lion's Mane. Use 1–2 tablespoons (20g) in a French press, plunger, percolator or coffee machine.
The Mini is 30 lion's mane mushroom capsules, a 7-day trial in a travel-sized bottle. It costs more per day than the full size, which has 4× more Lion's Mane, so most customers move to the full size once they know it suits them.
